When a child is battling a serious medical condition, it is paramount to their ability to cope and heal that their family remains close.
The mission of Ronald McDonald House, therefore, is to help keep families together and strong.
Free accommodation and support is provided to Kiwi families whose child has been admitted into Starship Children’s Hospital.
A vital part of the programme are the volunteers who regularly provide ongoing support such as preparing and serving meals for the families staying at the House.
Recently, 12 staff members from Wilco Precast turned up and did their part. Most of the vegetables, chicken, etc, required for the meal was donated, sufficient to cater for 140 people.
A Ukelele group from Howick also attended and provided the musical accompanyment for the diners during the meal.
Those who attended had a really fulfilling experience in helping the families staying at the House, so much so that Wilco staff have volunteered for another stint in three months time.
